A look back in time, The TRIANGLE SHIRTWAIST FACTORY in New York employed workers as young as 15, mostly women, who worked seven days a week from 7:00 am to 8:00 p.m. with a 1/2 hour lunch. They were paid 6 dollars  per week. And were required to use their own needles and thread.

But if that wasn't enough, the owners of the factory would lock all the exit doors in order to keep the workers from leaving! The stage was set for catastrophe. Well, on March 25, 1911 the fateful day came when a fire broke out. In the end, 146 workers died because of the selfish lack of consideration of their employers. This event served as one of the catylists that moved workers to press for safer working conditions.

Sadly, it often takes a tragedy to cause workers and employers to appreciate the seriousness of safety and proper training.
